DFW weather: Could parts of North Texas dip into the 30s? Here's the cooler forecast

It'll be a drier and cooler second half of the week. Our next chance of rain may impact Thanksgiving Day travel.

DALLAS — Temps are cooling off in North Texas this week. Here's the latest forecast:

Quick headlines:

  • Nice Tuesday ahead
  • Cooler, drier the rest of the week
  • Weekend warmup
  • Rain next week?

Tuesday

After rain and storms on Monday, the rain is done for the rest of the week. Very nice fall weather will be around on Tuesday with sunshine and low humidity. Morning temps will be in the 40s to low 50s and highs will be in the 70s.

Coolest temps of the season?

The coolest air of the season is set to arrive on Wednesday, but it won't be an arctic blast by any means.

However, since this fall has been so warm, it doesn't take much to get the coolest air of the season. Highs will be in the 60s and morning lows will easily be in the 40s. The coolest temp DFW reported this season happened on Oct. 17 when DFW dropped to 49 degrees.

Thursday morning looks to be the chilliest of the week with DFW making it to the low 40s. Outside of DFW, 30s are possible but freezing temps are not likely. Could there be some very patchy frost in rural and low-lying locations? It is not impossible, but most areas will be frost-free. On average, the first freeze occurs at DFW on Nov. 22.

The cool-down will be brief as a warming trend returns for the weekend. Expect sunshine with highs in the 70s on Saturday and Sunday.

Thanksgiving Travel Rain?

It is a bit too soon for details on timing, coverage, and amounts. It does look like our next system could bring an unsettled pattern to Texas the week of Thanksgiving. This could impact travel plans on Wednesday, especially across the eastern half of Texas. That same system could also bring cooler temps for the holiday. Be sure to keep checking back in.
