FEMA assistance available in Dallas, Kaufman counties

The declaration allows residents impacted by the storm to apply for assistance from FEMA.

DALLAS — The Biden Administration added Dallas County to the Texas Presidential Disaster Declaration Wednesday.

Now, residents of Dallas and Kaufman counties will be able to apply for FEMA's individual assistance program, the county announced. The program assists with expenses related to the storm, according to a press release from Dallas County.

Eligible expenses could include temporary housing, emergency home repairs, legal services, unemployment assistance, medical, dental, and funeral expenses. Uninsured and underinsured residents are also eligible to receive assistance for personal property losses. You can read more about the program here

Homeowners and renters are both eligible, according to the release.

“I want to thank President Biden for this declaration," Dallas County Judge Clay Lewis Jenkins said in a press release. "This will bring much-needed assistance to our Dallas County residents who are still recovering from the severe storms and straight-line winds.”

How to apply

Go online to disasterassistance.gov or download the FEMA app. There, you can complete the application and check your status.

Or, you can call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362 between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. Help is available there in most languages, according to the release.

The deadline to apply for assistance related to the Texas severe storms, tornadoes and clean up flooding is July 16, according to FEMA's website.

After FEMA reviews your application, you will get a letter explaining whether you are approved for assistance, how much assistance you will receive, how the assistance must be used and how to appeal FEMA’s decision if you do not agree with it.
