DFW weather: Tracking our weekend storm chances

First weekend of fall felt like summer! But storm chances make a return with the potential for severe weather.

DALLAS — Fall has arrived! But it will feel more like summer in North Texas this weekend. Hot and humid weather will affect everyone, but storm chances make a return as well. Some storms could be severe mainly Sunday evening into Sunday night.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has bee issued for much of North Texas until 11 p.m. The main risks with developing storms this evening will be up to tennis ball size hail and 70+ mph wind gusts. Not everyone is getting storms tonight.

Evening Update

We have seen numerous reports of quarter to tennis ball size hail in the area. The thunderstorms remain rather isolated this evening but more development is expected. The main risks continue to be very large hail and damaging winds. We did have a couple of tornado warnings northeast of the metroplex this evening, but ZERO tornado reports. The tornado risk remains very low tonight. Make sure you have a way to be warned of severe weather at all times.

Overnight

Coverage will generally decrease across most of the area after midnight. Storms are likely south of the metroplex. The severe threat is also expected to wind down a bit overnight. That doesn't mean we won't have any severe weather, but the intensity and number of severe storms will dial down.

14 Day Forecast

Other than the chance for rain, this front will help bring the 80s back for early next week along with slightly lower humidity. The rest of next week looks a bit drier with highs jumping into the low 90s.
