FORT WORTH, Texas — Runners like it a little cooler than we’ll see this weekend, but overall, the Cowtown Marathon in Fort Worth looks great.
Friday will bring temperatures in the 60s to North Texas, but Saturday and Sunday look warmer.
In Fort Worth, Saturday will start out cool, around 43 degrees, but will warm up into the mid-70s by the afternoon. Sunday will start out 10 degrees warmer at 53 and by mid-afternoon could reach close to 80.
Even more than warm temperatures, strong winds could impact runners in Fort Worth. Winds on Saturday could gust as high as 30 mph and reach 40 mph on Sunday.
Runners should plan to dress in layers to help with the rising temperatures and prepare for breezy conditions.
Temperatures were rising and so was the scaffolding Thursday at the Will Rogers Memorial Center as crews and volunteers geared up ahead of a warm Cowtown Marathon weekend.
“For me, it makes it easier,” said May Lynn Caruso, a 77-year-old marathon runner. “Maybe it would be too warm for some of the younger runners, but for me it’s ideal.”
This year will mark the 18th time Caruso has run the Cowtown Marathon. Before tackling the 26.2 miles, she and a group of volunteers were setting up the Amon Carter exhibit hall for a swarm of athletes.
“I look forward to the excitement since we have about 23,000 people coming to the site to pick up all their credentials and their running stuff,” Caruso said.
Runners from all 50 states are headed into town for the 42nd installment of the run, according to executive director Heidi Swartz.
“It’s going to be a little warm for our Sunday runners, but we’re taking precautions for that,” Swartz said. “It’s great weather, especially for Saturday.”
