Local cooling stations on standby in North Texas, Salvation Army says

Each location follows guidelines by the city and the county, so exact protocols may vary from station to station.

DALLAS — The Salvation Army of North Texas is preparing for what is expected to be a very hot week in the area.

While the organization's cooling stations aren't open yet, the non-profit said they are on standby to do so.

Each location follows guidelines by the city and the county, so exact protocols may vary from station to station. North Texas Area Command has established a threshold for activating heat relief services, which relies on a forecast of 100 degrees or higher, usually for more than one day, or if there’s a heat index of more than 105 degrees for over two days in a row.

The following locations have onsite cooling stations:

Dallas County

  • Carr P. Collins Social Service Center (Dallas)
  • Garland Corps Community Center
  • Irving Corps Community Center
  • Oak Cliff Corps Community Center
  • Pleasant Grove Corps Community Center

Denton County

  • Denton Corps Community Center
  • Lewisville Corps Community Center

Collin County

  • Plano Corps Community Center
  • McKinney Corps Community Center

Tarrant County

  • Arlington Corps Community Center
  • J.E. & L.E. Mabee Social Service Center (mobile canteen)

Ellis County

  • Waxahachie Corps Community Center
