DALLAS — Michelin Thursday released their list of the best hotels in the U.S., and 20 Texas hotels are on it.
The prestigious Michelin Guide is the most recognized restaurant and hotel and restaurant rating system in the world, with the hotel awards called a Michelin Key. Michelin-rated hotels receive a one, two or three Key rating.
“The same way the Michelin Star recognizes restaurants for outstanding cooking, the Michelin Key recognizes hotels for outstanding stays,” Michelin’s website reads. “Our selection team takes into account five universal criteria when awarding Michelin Stars, and they have five universal criteria when selecting hotels: excellence in architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, overall personality and character, value for the price, and a significant contribution to the neighborhood or setting.”
Here are the Dallas and Fort Worth hotels that made the list and how they ranked.
- Casa Duro in Dallas located atop Sister and Café Duro on Greenville Avenue received a one Key ranking.
- Hotel Swexan, Harwood Hospitality Group’s flagship hotel in Uptown Dallas, got a one Key ranking.
- Hotel Zaza, a luxury boutique hotel in Uptown Dallas with the Dragonfly restaurant and a poolside bar, got a one Key ranking.
- Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, one of Dallas’ oldest hotels that dates back to 1925, got a one Key ranking. “Much of The Mansion is an Italian fantasy as imagined with American big bucks due to King’s infatuation with the Renaissance. Everything is excess,” Michelin wrote.
- Hotel Drover in the Fort Worth Stockyards, “a hotel that seeks a balance between Old West character and contemporary boutique-hotel style,” as Michelin wrote, got a one Key rating.
- Bowie House in Fort Worth, under the Auberge Resorts Collection, is the only North Texas hotel to get a two Key rating. “It just might be the most stylish building in Fort Worth, Texas; it’s surely the city’s most extraordinary luxury hotel,” Michelin wrote.

No hotels in Texas received the coveted three Key rating. Only 16 hotels across the country received the three Key rating, including the Beverly Hills Hotel in California, Kona Village, A Rosewood resort in Hawaii, Sage Lodge in Montana, and Casa Cipriani in New York.
This is the second-ever announcement of Michelin Key ratings in the U.S., but Michelin Guide made its first hotel recommendations back in the 1920s.
Texas was announced as one of Michelin’s territories earlier this year with the first Michelin Guide Texas restaurant selections (with Dallas Fort Worth, Austin, Houston and San Antonio included) expected to be released later this year.
