Buc-ee's expanding out of state again

The wildly popular concept is heading to the Peach State.
When the Buc-ee's in Denton opens in November, the nearby roadwork on I-35E will not be complete.

Buc-ee’s, a wildly popular convenience store and travel center chain based in Texas, is expanding out of state again.

The company's first Georgia location will be at the southeast corner of Interstate 75 and Russell Parkway in Warner Robins, south of Macon, according to a Nov. 12 press release. That location is scheduled to break ground at 11 a.m. Nov. 18 and is expected to open in early 2021, the release said.

"Buc-ee's picked Warner Robins for its next location based off their desire to support military families in the region, as well as the town's location on the route between Atlanta and Florida," the release stated.

The Warner Robins location will be 53,000 square feet and feature 116 fueling positions. It will offer thousands of snack and food options, including all of Buc-ee's favorites such as Texas barbecue, homemade fudge, Beaver nuggets, jerky and fresh pastries.

The store will create about 200 permanent jobs, and Buc-ee's will hold job fairs over the spring and summer, per the release.

"Warner Robins is one of the fastest-growing cities in Georgia, and we are hoping to support the military community at nearby Robins Air Force Base by providing quality jobs with great pay, full benefits, 401k, and three weeks vacation," Jeff Nadalo, general counsel for Buc-ee's, said in the release.

Buc-ee's opened its first location in 1982 in Lake Jackson, where it's still partially based. The company moved parts of its headquarters to Pearland in 2015 and inked a lease in August 2018 with Firmspace, a luxury coworking startup that caters to executives more so than entrepreneurs, for corporate offices in Austin.

Now, Buc-ee’s operates 37 convenience stores and travel centers in Texas, according to the Nov. 12 release. The bulk of those stores are in the greater Houston area, including the Katy location that opened in 2017 and is home to the world’s longest car wash.
