American Airlines expanding flight schedule, flying bigger planes to help meet winter travel demand

Places like Rome, Dublin, Auckland and Buenos Aires are a part of the 56 international destinations the air carrier is offering this winter.

FORT WORTH, Texas — You’ll now be able to reach even more global destinations from DFW Airport. American Airlines just rolled out its largest international winter schedule.

“There's just so much demand, right now. We have the opportunity with aircraft, with our ground crews, with our flight crews to reintroduce and ensure we are offering trips where our customers are looking to travel,” said American Airlines Senior VP of Operations for DFW Jim Moses.

Places like Rome, Dublin, Auckland and Buenos Aires are a part of the 56 international destinations the air carrier is offering this winter - including 50 daily departures to Mexico.

The airline says those flights will also have 20% more seat capacity than last year, meaning not only are they extending service – but they’re flying bigger planes to accommodate more passengers.

And despite inflation, the airline says the tickets are affordable.

“Our pricing, obviously very affordable, very competitive pricing,” Moses said. “We are very excited about the fact that you know, many customers are traveling.”

WFAA reporter Janel Forte checked out prices on Nov. 1 for some of those routes. Round trip tickets to Rome in late January – sitting at $697 round trip in coach. Flights to Dublin during the same period are a little cheaper at $649.

This is a bold move for the airline as it struggles to find financial footing just two weeks ago; American reported more than half a billion dollars in losses forQ3. Competitors United and Delta reported profits.

The announcement also comes on the heels of American Airlines flight attendants threatening to strike. But when asked airline executives said – they expect to continue operate at full capacity and left it at that.
