American Airlines Group Inc. has revealed nonstop flights to three new European cities in 2024, in addition to expanding and re-adding service to other destinations.
The Fort Worth-based carrier plans to add new service to Copenhagen, Denmark, Nice, France, and Naples, Italy, next summer from Philadelphia International Airport.
American (Nasdaq: AAL) will also launch service between Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Barcelona, Spain.
But the airline's expansion into Europe doesn't stop there. American plans to re-introduce flights between Chicago O'Hare International Airport and Venice, Italy.
“New service from Philadelphia and expanded trans-Atlantic service from Chicago and Dallas-Fort Worth will offer customers convenient one-stop access from more than 200 unique destinations across the U.S. to Europe next summer,” said Brian Znotins, American’s senior vice president of Network and Schedule Planning.
Tickets will be available starting August 20.
American's move into Naples marks its fourth Italian destination, while the launch in Copenhagen will offer a gateway to 11 other European countries.
The carrier's expansion at Barcelona will also seal American's status as the largest airline serving Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport.
American added that it grew service to year-round at several international destinations, including Barcelona; Venice; Athens, Greece; Dublin; Madrid; Rome; and Lisbon, Portugal.
For Dallas-Fort Worth, that means nonstop year-round service specifically to Barcelona, Dublin and Rome.
New service to Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America this winter
American also announced that it would grow service between the U.S. and Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin American with its largest-ever schedule to the destinations over this coming winter.
Daily service between DFW and Buenos Aires is expected to hit in October.
North Texas will also see additional flights between DFW and Cozumel, Mexico, and Nassau, Bahamas.
American will also growing its frequency to Eleuthera, Georgetown and Marsh Harbour in the Bahamas; Anguilla; Bridgetown, Barbados; St. Maarten; and Tortola, British Virgin Islands.
New American flights from DFW
In June, American revealed it would increase departures from DFW to seven popular destinations in Mexico, in addition to second daily flights to Rome and Paris.
Jim Moses, the head of Operations for American at DFW International Airport, told the Dallas Business Journal in May he is looking forward to a busy summer as the carrier continues to improve performance at its largest hub.
Fort Worth-based American will operate more than 800 daily departures from DFW this summer serving more than 300 destinations. Jim Moses, who was recently promoted to senior vice president of Hub Operations at DFW, said American plans to operate its “largest ever mainline schedule” at the airport with the most available seats it has ever offered.
And American is slated to continue its growth streak at DFW for years to come. The company and the airport recently inked a 10-year use and lease agreement in May that includes $4.8 billion of capital investments. The investment will result in 24 new gates for American, including 15 at a newly constructed sixth terminal, known as Terminal F, that could be completed by 2026.
"When we look at DFW and where we're headed, certainly 800 [flights] is not the limit," American CEO Robert Isom told the Business Journal earlier this year. "Nine hundred is not the limit. One thousand is not the limit. We look far beyond that, and it's going to be fun being able to bring up the network to be able to achieve that."
