ROWLETT, Texas — A downed powerline in Rowlett is the reason behind a few road closures and a local elementary school canceling classes on Tuesday.
According to a Garland Independent School District official, Katherine Stephens Elementary School lost power after a vehicle struck a powerline near the campus. That is the only school that's confirmed to be cancelling class for the day.
In a note sent to parents, school officials say electricity is expected to be restored around noon.
Rowlett police have been working the accident since around 2 a.m.
Officers have shut down the westbound lanes of Miller Road between Cheyenne Drive and President George Bush Highway for the next few hours.
