UPDATE: Richardson road reopens after tanker crash spills fuel on road

Officials said they reopened roads by 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

RICHARDSON, Texas — Officials have reopened roads as they clean up a fuel spill following a crash Tuesday night between a tanker carrying fuel and another vehicle.

Traffic on Renner Road was shut down for hours between North Star Road and Moroney Drive as crews clear the scene. Officials said they reopened roads by 6:30 a.m.

Officials were called to a crash shortly before 8:30 p.m. near Renner Road and North Star roads, according to Richardson Fire Department.

The truck carrying up to 8,600 gallons of fuel rolled several times, spilling fuel onto the road. It's unknown how much fuel was inside at the time of the crash or much of it leaked.

The driver of the tanker was sent to the hospital with serious injuries, officials said. The driver of the other vehicle was treated and released.

Crews dumped loads of dirt to prevent the fuel from spreading. Firefighters said they have also used a special compound to keep the odor from becoming hazardous to residents in the area.
