ROCKWALL COUNTY, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation will continue work this week to expand Interstate 30 in Rockwall County — that is, as long as the weather cooperates.
The eastbound right lane of IH-30 will be closed from Dalrock Road to about a half-mile before Horizon Road, daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Two IH-30 westbound lanes at Dalrock Road will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The closures began Wednesday and will last through Friday.
The $334 million project by the Texas Department of Transportation involves widening 17 miles of IH-30 from six to eight lanes. The massive overhaul is in response to Rockwall County’s booming population growth.
The 17-mile stretch of construction extends from Bass Pro Drive to west of FM 2642. The new construction will also include continuous multiple-lane frontage roads with bridge structures over Lake Ray Hubbard, interchange additions and ramp adjustments.
This highway expansion aligns with Rockwall County's status as one of the fastest-growing counties in the nation and top 10 in the state, as per the U.S. Census Bureau. Construction broke ground in the summer of 2020 and completion of the highway widening project is scheduled for 2027.
