Record travel numbers expected in Texas this Memorial Day weekend

AAA Texas is anticipating a major boost in travel this Memorial Day weekend, with more than 4% higher travel volume expected compared to last year.

DALLAS — Pack your bags and buckle up for a holiday adventure as Texans celebrate from May 23 to May 27.

AAA Texas is anticipating a major boost in travel this Memorial Day weekend, with more than 4% higher travel volume expected compared to last year. Approximately 3.6 million Texans are predicted to travel during the holiday period, marking the highest number of travelers since AAA began monitoring holiday travel in 2000.

At a national level, the total number of Memorial Day travelers is estimated to be 43.8 million. That’s a 4.1% increase from last year and almost matches the record set in 2005, with 44 million travelers. 

The holiday travel forecast includes people embarking on trips of 50 miles or more from home between Thursday, May 23 and Monday, May 27.
