DALLAS — A large pothole forced two Dallas highway lanes to be shut down after more than a dozen vehicles got flat tires from the hazard, officials said Tuesday.
The pothole was located on a lane of eastbound Interstate 20 near Bonnie View Road in southeast Dallas, according to the Dallas County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office posted to social media a picture of the pothole, which appeared have rebar exposed and a large chunk of concrete missing from the roadway.
The sheriff's office said the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) attempted to patch the pothole on Monday, but that their efforts failed. TxDOT crews were supposed to return to the location at 10 a.m. on Tuesday to repair their work, the sheriff's office said.
In the meantime, deputies said they were closing two traffic lanes surrounding the crevasse after having received reports of 12 to 15 vehicles getting flat tires from the pothole on Tuesday.
The pothole was located in the right-center lane of the eastbound highway.
Officials said drivers should expect delays and lane closures in the area as crews work to fix the roadway.
