FORT WORTH, Texas — All lanes of Interstate 30 and northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 287 near downtown Fort Worth were temporarily shut down Friday afternoon, according to TxDOT.
A statement from the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office said the closures were dur to deputies pursuing a suspect with multiple warrants.
Police said at about 11:30 a.m. Friday, a warrant deputy tried to serve a warrant in the 1700 block of Oak Village Boulevard in Arlington when the suspect fled in a vehicle.
Deputies pursued the suspect into Dallas County and back into Tarrant County, police said, and multiple attempts were made to stop the suspect by using stop sticks on the vehicle.
One attempt was successful, police said, but the suspect continued driving slowly along I-30 in eastern Tarrant County before finally stopping on a bridge at I-30 and Highway 287.
The suspect eventually surrendered and was arrested, police said. He faces charges of evading arrest in a vehicle and forgery of a government or national instrument. He also had felony warrants out of Maryland and an assault charge in Colorado.
The TxDOT camera at I-30 and I-35W showed a significant backup of vehicles on the highway. Fort Worth police tweeted that there was police activity in the area. Shortly after 1 p.m., TxDOT updated that the I-30 lanes had reopened.
