CARROLLTON, Texas — Carrollton police shut down a part of Interstate 35E on Monday morning to clean up an "unknown substance" that was causing slick roadways.
By 9 a.m., the highway was reopened, but police said there would be low visibility in the area for about 30 minutes because of the cleanup process.
According to posts on social media, the shutdown was in the northbound main lanes from Valwood Parkway in Farmers Branch to Frankford Road through Carrollton.
As of 5:10 a.m., Texas Department of Transportation officials said that it would take three more hours before the highway could reopen, but traffic was still backed up into the 8 a.m. hour.
Police closed off the highway at about 1 a.m. on Monday to prevent crashes due to slick roads from the unknown substance. It was believed that the substance leaked from an 18-wheeler, but police on the scene said the vehicle that leaked it kept driving and officials have not found them yet.
