At least one dead in fatal wreck along I-30 in Arlington, police say

Early Friday, a fatal collision caused all eastbound lanes to be blocked at the intersection of I-30 and N. Fielder Rd. The roads have since been reopened.

ARLINGTON, Texas — All lanes of Interstate 30 in Arlington were blocked off Friday morning, leading to major traffic delays following a fatal wreck involving several vehicles, according to the Arlington Police Department.

As of 9 a.m., all lanes had been reopened.

Just before 5 a.m. on Friday, an accident caused all eastbound I-30 lanes in Arlington to be blocked at the intersection of I-30 and N. Fielder Rd near Lamar High School and south of Bell South Airfield Heliport.

After speaking with witnesses, Arlington Police later confirmed an unidentified woman was sitting down in the far right lane of the highway – and by the time drivers could see her, they were unable to avoid hitting her.

The drivers who struck the woman stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say no criminal charges will be filed in connection to the incident.

It's unclear why the woman was sitting on the highway.

A secondary crash that happened on the southbound part of Fielder Bridge as drivers were exiting on westbound I-30 caused an additional backup, but that crash cleared just before 6 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
