NORTHLAKE, Texas — A 63-year-old woman was killed in a crash that shut down Interstate 35 West in Northlake Wednesday afternoon, police confirmed.
According to a news release from the Northlake Police Department, officers responded to the 17000 block of I-35W northbound lanes around 4:42 p.m. to the report of an accident involving a 2019 Fiat 500 driven by a 60-year-old woman and a 2010 Toyota driven by a 35-year-old man.
Police said both cars were driving in the left lane of the highway when traffic slowed down in the area.
According to police, the driver of the Fiat slowed down for the traffic. However, the driver of the Toyota failed to do so and hit the Fiat from behind, which caused major damage to both cars.
Police said a 63-year-old woman, who was in the Fiat and later identified as Kawaljweet Kaur, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The extent of the injuries to the others involved in the crash is unclear.
The Northlake Police Department said detectives are actively working on the case and there have been no criminal charges filed at this time.
