A major Dallas highway ramp just shut down for several weeks. Here's why.

Eastbound I-30 to U.S. 75 will be shut down until nearly mid-November.

DALLAS — A major Dallas highway ramp is now closed. And it won't reopen for several weeks.

The eastbound Interstate 30 ramp to northbound U.S. 75 -- and major interchange on the southeast side of downtown Dallas -- was shut down Tuesday night, and it will remain closed through Nov. 11, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

TxDOT is conducting a bridge maintenance project on the ramp and needed to close it for an extended period of time. The eastbound I-30 ramp to southbound Interstate 45 will remain open.

So if I-30 to northbound U.S. 75 is part of your daily commute, you'll be needing to make a big change. Drivers can instead take the Interstate 35E exit to go north from I-30, and then cut over to U.S. 75 through the Woodall Rodger Freeway, circumventing downtown that way.

If you're heading into the Deep Ellum or East Dallas area from eastbound I-30, you'll need to take another exit along I-30 instead of going north on U.S. 75. Another detour option will be heading south on I-45, and then circling back north on U.S. 75.
