DALLAS — The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) reminds Texans hitting the road of what not to do when you’re behind the wheel.
According to the TxDOT, last year there was an average of 65 alcohol-related crashes every day on Texas roadways and an average of three deaths per day from those crashes.
In Dallas in 2023, there were 3,727 DUI-alcohol-related traffic crashes, resulting in 148 deaths and 287 serious injuries.
In Fort Worth that same year, there were just 2,061 DUI-alcohol-related traffic crashes, resulting in 63 fatalities and 168 serious injuries.
TxDOT’s ‘Drive sober. No regrets.’ campaign across the Lone Star state encourages Texans not to drink and drive, and always to choose a sober ride.
The program kicked off last Friday and will continue through July 7th which aligns with July and August, the two deadliest months for drunk-driving fatalities, according to the organization.
The “Drive Sober. No Regrets” campaign’s “Faces of Drunk Driving” initiative overlaps with heightened law enforcement efforts to keep Texas roads safe during the Independence Day holiday. From June 21 through July 7, increased patrols aim to reduce the number of DUI-related crashes, injuries and fatalities.
Driving impaired and getting a DWI can result in time-consuming legal hassles and fines and fees of up to $17,000.
