Overturned semi-truck shuts down I-35E northbound in Denton

A crash in the northbound lanes involved an overturned rig, and crews were trying to rescue a trapped driver.

DENTON, Texas — The storms that moved through North Texas early Thursday weren't severe, but officials were working at least one major issue on the roads during the morning rush.

Interstate 35E was shut down temporarily in both directions in Denton, between Dallas Drive and Teasley Lane, due to separate accidents involving 18-wheelers, officials said.

The crashes were reported shortly after 4 a.m. The northbound lanes remained closed in the area, but officials were letting traffic pass in one lane on the southbound side.

The northbound lanes were reopened by 9 a.m.

A crash in the northbound lanes involved an overturned rig, and crews were able to rescue a trapped driver.

More information about the second 18-wheeler accident was not immediately available.

There was no word initially on what caused the crashes, or how long the highway was expected to be impacted. Anyone commuting along that stretch of I-35E should avoid the area.

As for the weather, storms were clearing out of Denton County by 4:30 a.m., though some passing showers were still in the area.
