AAA: Millions of Texans expected to hit the ‘Holiday Road’ this week

The agency expects 115.2 million people across the country to leave for their holiday getaways over the next week.

DALLAS — For those of you packing up the car this week and hitting the road, please be on your best behavior behind the wheel… it’s going to be packed!

AAA estimates 115.2 million people are getting out of town for their celebrations, with a majority – 103.6 million – planning a road trip!

The agency expects most people to get behind the wheel for a 10-day period starting on Dec. 23 and wraps up on New Year’s Day.

AAA says the best times to hit the road are before lunch or after 7p.m. during this time frame.

We expect more than 9 million of y’all will start your trip in the Lone Star State with more than 8 million of you doing so by car.

While travel numbers are still down 6% from pre-pandemic levels — AAA Texas is anticipating a 2% increase from 2022.

The agency is also expecting to respond to more than 46,000 calls for help on the road in Texas during the time period. So make sure your vehicle maintenance is up-to-date and your tires and battery are in good condition before you leave!

And of course, we can't remind you enough to leave the distractions and road rage at home y'all!

Do your part as a driver or passenger to make sure your time on the road is as safe as possible. It's the best way to make sure you and the drivers around you can all get to your destination safely!
