Investigation after traffic backup in Balch Springs

According to TxDOT, an accident occurring shortly after 9 a.m. on IH-20 and Belt Line Road required an extensive investigation at the scene.

BALCH SPRINGS, Texas — It was a slow Monday trek for drivers on IH-20 in Balch Springs. 

Both westbound and eastbound traffic moved slowly Monday morning as vehicles approached Belt Line Road in southeast Dallas County. According to the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT), an accident occurring shortly after 9 a.m. on IH-20 and Belt Line Road required an extensive investigation at the scene, due to serious or even possibly fatal injuries of those involved in the crash.

The crash scene finally began to clear shortly after 1 p.m. Monday.

Traffic was down to one lane for several hours after on the westbound side of IH-20 at Belt Line Road; one eastbound lane also remained closed off. The closures lasted into the afternoon hours. Westbound traffic was backed up to about Lasater Road.

First responders and law enforcement spent hours combing the interstate and area near the crash for unknown reasons.
