ARLINGTON, Texas — Relief is on the way for drivers who move through parts of the Arlington area.
The closures that you're accustomed to seeing near the 360/I-30 interchange shouldn't be slowing you down much longer.
Crews there have been hard at work, turning the 1950s cloverleaf design there into a direct connect interchange.
TxDOT Fort Worth says that was a huge need for what it considers to be the crossroads of the metroplex.
"These direct connect interchanges are safer, and more timely than going through the existing cloverleaf design," said Val Lopez, with TxDOT Fort Worth. "You have full interchange connectability, between I-30 and 360, where before you didn't."
The agency says at this point all of the major elements are complete and they're working on the finishing touches.
"That includes the work on Six Flags Drive that includes finishing up the pavement, that includes landscaping and the vegetation that we're gonna install," Lopez added.
That work on Six Flags Drive should make it easier to get to the theme park and all of the other entertainment venues Arlington houses.
It's being expanded from two lanes to five. The hope is the added capacity for drivers should make driving to events in the area less congested.
"This project definitely is increasing access and safety for drivers to access the entertainment district," Lope added. "We're very proud of the fact that we were able to maintain access while building this project. And having those people go to those venues in a timely and safe manner."
TxDOT Fort Worth expects all of this to be wrapped up by late spring, so the closures in that area should start to clear up over the next few months.
