ARLINGTON, Texas — Arlington police arrested and charged a 22-year-old after he allegedly fatally hit a motorcyclist before leaving the scene.
Arlington police responded to the scene around 11:17 p.m. on Aug. 23 at the intersection of South Watson Road and Webb Lynn Road, according to a press release from the department.
The crash was between a Dodge Charger and a motorcycle, according to the release. The suspect, 22-year-old Kenneth Polk, was allegedly driving east on Webb Lynn Road when he ran a red light and hit a motorcyclist, police said.
Polk allegedly fled the scene but was quickly found and released, police said.
The motorcyclist, 43-year-old Julie Maldonado, was transported from the scene to a hospital where she later died.
Investigators believe Polk was intoxicated at the time of the crash, the release states. Witnesses said his vehicle was previously seen fleeing an unrelated crash involving a mailbox at a nearby residence, police said.
Polk is charged with intoxication manslaughter and collision involving death.
"The Arlington Police Department reminds everyone that driving under the influence is never worth it," the release states. "The consequences can be devastating and irreversible."
