A private aviation company based at Dallas Love Field Airport recently completed two of the first Starlink high-speed internet installations on a Gulfstream GIV long-range jet.
Business Jet — a Dallas-based aircraft management, charter and maintenance company — announced Nov. 26 the installations of Starlink, a satellite-based internet service from Elon Musk's SpaceX. Business Jet claimed it was one of the first companies to do so, and that it would soon be able to follow suit with Embraer Legacy 600 jets as well.
The news provides a look into the latest features favored by private plane owners.
"The addition of the GIV to the lineup of approved aircraft has been met with enthusiasm from its owners and operators," Lina Sabbah, director of aircraft solutions and acquisitions for Business Jet, said in a statement.
Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. announced in October that it received Federal Aviation Administration supplemental type certification to install Starlink internet on the G650 and G650ER.
“Starlink is an offering that we know is important to operators,” stated Derek Zimmerman, president of Gulfstream Customer Support. "Our team has invested extensive time and resources preparing for this certification, and we are well-positioned across our service network to provide a seamless installation."
