UFO over Dallas? Delkus knows what it was.

Videos posted on social media questioned what the bright object in the sky over Texas was Friday night. WFAA Chief Meteorologist Pete Delkus has the answer.

DALLAS — Did you see that light in the sky over Dallas?

A lot of you did -- and you sent us tons of videos and photos wondering what the heck it was.

Spoiler alert: It was not a UFO.

In fact, WFAA Chief Meteorologist Pete Delkus knows exactly what was: SpaceX rocket Falcon 9.

Delkus breaks it all down here:

Falcon 9 took off from Cape Canaveral, Florida, took a trip around the earth and then had its second stage rocket burn south of El Paso. The second stage rocket burn is how the rocket boosts itself into orbit in order to release its Starlink satellites. SpaceX livestreamed its Falcon 9 rocket launch here on X:

The second stage rocket burn, combined with the setting sun, helped illuminate the burn in the atmosphere, Delkus said.

And there's your answer.

Pretty straightforward stuff. Well, for 2023, anyway.
