DALLAS — Arike Ogunbowale can be celebrated as one of the greatest Dallas Wings players of all time.
The Wings guard on Thursday night scored 11 points against New York Liberty, breaking the franchise's all-time scoring mark 3,971 points. Ogunbowale needed 10 points to break Deanna Nolan's record, which she secured over her nine-year career with the Detroit Shock, an earlier iteration of the franchise.
Ogunbowale broke the record on a free throw.
The record-breaking moment was a high point for Dallas on Thursday night, as they lost to Liberty, 99-67.
Ogunbowale received a well-earned game ball in the locker room after the game.
Last season, Ogunbowale passed Nolan for most made three-pointers in Shock/Wings franchise history.
Ogunbowale is known for her scoring ability and clutch performances. In 2021, she earned her first All-Star Game MVP, and three years after that she won the award again, making her one of the few WNBA players to achieve this feat twice.
She also set the All-Star scoring record with 34 points playing against and beating the U.S. Olympic team this year.
On Sept. 15 in a game against the Indiana Fever, Ogunbowale reached 4,000 career points with a pull-up three.
Playing in her sixth season, Ogunbowale is the third-leading scorer in the WNBA with an average of 22.3 points per game this season.
