UT-Arlington has fired men's basketball coach Scott Cross, the school announced Monday afternoon.

Athletic director Jim Baker also announced that UTA will not retain assistant coaches Greg Young, Zak Buncik and Kenneth Mangrum and director of operations Maurice Moore.

“We thank Coach Cross and his staff for their service to the University and for developing a men’s basketball program that operates with honor and integrity,” said Baker. “In order to align the program’s direction with the University’s objectives, I believe new leadership and energy surrounding the program is needed. We will begin a national search immediately.”

Cross, a UTA alum, was 225-161 in 12 seasons coaching the Mavericks. He led the team to three conference championships and an NCAA tournament appearance in 2008. The Mavs went 21-13 this season and reached the Sun Belt Conference tournament championship.
