COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The stage is officially set: Texas and Texas A&M will renew their rivalry in primetime at Kyle Field in College Station.
In what was hardly a surprise, the Longhorns-Aggies game for Nov. 30 will be played at 6:30 p.m. on ABC (WFAA), the schools and network announced Monday.
The 6:30 p.m. kickoff slot has been reserved for the some of the biggest SEC matchups of the season -- including Georgia vs. Texas and LSU vs. Texas A&M -- so it was expected that the two Lone Star State rivals would take that spot for their first meeting since 2011.
Texas and Texas A&M last played each other when both schools were still members of the Big 12 Conference. It took Texas joining the SEC this year to get the rivalry game back on the schedule.
And there will be plenty more on the line than just bragging rights.
Texas and Texas A&M both sit atop the SEC at 5-1 in conference play. If Texas can take care of business against Kentucky, and A&M can handle Auburn, then it would set up a Nov. 30 game with a trip to the SEC Championship Game on the line -- and an inside track at a berth in the College Football Playoffs.
It will also be a must-win for A&M to keep its playoff hopes alive. Texas, currently sitting at No. 3 with just the one loss to Georgia, has a bit more breathing room, should they stumble in College Station.
