The University of Texas has hired former Houston head football coach Tom Herman to replace Charlie Strong, according to a report from ESPN's Heather Dinich.
The former Ohio State offensive coordinator spent the past two seasons as the Cougars head coach, leading the AAC program to an 11-1 record in 2015, and a 9-3 mark this season.
Herman has been the most sought after head coach in the game over the entirety of this season, and has been linked to the Texas and LSU jobs heavily over the past couple weeks. On Thanksgiving Day, it appeared Herman was destined for Baton Rouge, but now it appears that may have been a ploy to force Texas' hand.
The official announcement of the hiring is expected later today.
Herman served as a graduate assistant within the Texas program in 1999 and 2000, as he was just getting his coaching career off the ground. He also worked at Sam Houston State, Texas State, Rice, and Iowa State before he landed in Columbus as the Buckeyes offensive coordinator for three seasons (2012-2014). Herman began his coaching career at Texas Lutheran, as the wide receivers coach.
Earlier today, the Longhorns officially fired head coach Charlie Strong, who had held the position for the past three seasons. Strong went 16-21 during his tenure on the Forty Acres, including a final-nail-in-the-coffin loss to Kansas last week.
