Southlake Carroll elevates Larry Vucan to baseball coach

Southlake Carroll has elevated Larry Vucan to replace longtime coach Larry Hughes. Vucan was Southlake Carroll's pitching coach the last five years. Vucan was the popular choice among the Southlake community as past and present players and parents delivered a petition in his support.

Southlake Carroll has elevated Larry Vucan to replace longtime coach Larry Hughes. Vucan was Southlake Carroll's pitching coach the last five years. Vucan was the popular choice among the Southlake community as past and present players and parents delivered a petition in his support.

Southlake Carroll record-setting coach Larry Hughes retires

Before arriving at Carroll in 2011, Vucan was an assistant for one year at Northwest and head coach at El Paso Franklin for eight seasons. Vucan led Franklin to six consecutive playoff appearances, including a region quarterfinal berth in 2007. Vucan is graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso and El Paso Eastwood High School.

“Coach Vucan brings valuable experience as a former head coach with success in the playoffs,” said Darren Allman, Carroll ISD’s Executive Director for Athletics. “He is also highly respected in the classroom and has an outstanding reputation in the community. Those were also important factors that helped make him the top choice. We expect Coach Vucan to continue our Dragon tradition of excellence in baseball.”

As the Dragon pitching coach, Vucan helped develop one of the most successful staffs in the area with several college-bound pitchers. He has also helped coach the Dragon JV teams.

Vucan’s playing experience includes four years at the New Mexico Highlands University and seven years in the Italian Professional Baseball League. Other coaching highlights include: becoming the youngest manager in the Italian Professional Baseball League and
