Here are the differences between AT&T Stadium and SoFi Stadium

North Texas football fans headed to Los Angeles for the national championship are probably very familiar with AT&T Stadium, but not SoFi. We compared the two.

LOS ANGELES — When TCU and Georgia kick off from Los Angeles for the national championship, North Texas football fans will likely experience a similar level of luxury while attending the game that they're used to. 

The game's venue, SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., is a brand new stadium which typically hosts Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers home games. SoFi Stadium has also been used for similar events as AT&T Stadium in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, such as international soccer matches, concerts and more.

Both stadiums have even been included in the 2026 World Cup venue list and are top competitors for the World Cup Final bid.

Here are some quick facts about each stadium and the differences between the two: 

AT&T Stadium

  • Broke ground in 2005, opened in 2009
  • Cost of construction: $1.3 billion ($1.64 billion adjusted for inflation in 2021)
  • Capacity: 80,000 (expandable to 105,000)
  • Stadium style: Enclosed with a retractable roof
  • "Jumbotron": Center-hung Mitsubishi video display board that was the largest HDTV screen in the world at the time of their installation
  • Location: Arlington, Texas
  • Major events hosted: 2015 College Football Playoff National Championship, Super Bowl XLV (2011), Big 12 Championship (annually since 2017), 2010 NBA All-Star Weekend, WrestleMania 32 & 38 
  • Nearby entertainment: Texas Live!, Globe Life Field
  • Curtains? Yes, but Jerry Jones refuses to use them.
  • Grass type: Artificial (Matrix Turf)

SoFi Stadium

  • Broke ground in 2016, opened in 2020
  • Cost of construction: $5-6 billion
  • Capacity: 70,240 (expandable to 100,240)
  • Stadium style: Open air, canopy-style with a translucent roof
  • "Jumbotron": Infinity Screen by Samsung, an ovular, double-sided 4K HDR video board, the first of its kind, that is suspended from the roof over the field
  • Location: Inglewood, California
  • Major events hosted: 2022 National Championship, Super Bowl LVI, Leagues Cup Showcase, LA Bowl
  • Nearby entertainment: ESPN compound, Kia Forum, Hollywood Park Casino
  • Grass type: Artificial (Matrix Turf)
