FRISCO, Texas — The United States women's national soccer team (USWNT) announced its 18-player roster to compete this summer in the Paris Olympics and a teenage soccer sensation from North Texas made the squad.
Jaedyn Shaw, 19, will head with the USWNT to France with the team. She's burst onto the scene in U.S. soccer in the last year. Her first goal of her international career in her second-ever appearance for the women's team was in October 2023.
Then, in a USWNT friendly of her hometown of Frisco, she scored the game-winning goal during a 2-1 comeback against China. Shaw played in six games and scored four goals during the 2024 CONCACAF W Gold Cup, becoming the first player in the USWNT's history to score in their first four starts for the team.
Shaw plays her club ball for NWSL's San Diego Wave. She was signed by the Wave in 2022 when she was only 17, becoming the second-youngest signing in league history. Shaw joins a group of star-studded forwards on the USWNT that includes Crystal Dunn, Trinity Rodman, Sophia Smith, and Mallory Swanson.
The most notable omission from the Olympic roster was another forward, 34-year-old Alex Morgan.
