HIGHLIGHTS: FC Dallas defeat St. Louis CITY SC to back on winning track in manager Peter Luccin's debut

FC Dallas returns to the pitch on Wednesday to take on Minnesota United FC, who are in the No. 3 spot in the West.

FRISCO, Texas — FC Dallas won their first game with new head coach Peter Luccin at the helm on Saturday, defeating St. Louis CITY SC 2-0.

Luccin took over for Nico Estevez, who the club parted ways with after the 1-1 draw against Minnesota United FC last weekend. Luccin became the third interim head coach in FC Dallas history to win his first game (Colin Clarke, 2003 and Marco Ferruzzi, 2008).

Estevez managed a 28-27-29 MLS regular season record as head coach, including a 3-8-5 record in 2024.

“It was very important to have that first win, or at least, the pressure to get that first win disappears. But that doesn’t mean that we don’t want more. I want to insist that we need to do better, we need to play better," Luccin said. "The players can play better. These past four days where I focused on playing vertically, it can get a bit confusing. But bit by bit we will get our rhythm. There were good moments, but it isn’t enough.”

Watch coach Peter Luccin's post-game press conference here:

Maarten Paes played a big game in goal for FC Dallas, making numerous key saves to keep a clean sheet. At last check, Paes led the MLS in All-Star votes at his position. He logged eight saves in the match. Paes has logged six straight matches with at least five saves. It was also Paes' fourth clean sheet of the 2024 season.

FC Dallas improves to 17 points on the season and into 12th place in the Western Conference standings.

Jesus Ferreira and Nkosi Tafari scored the goals for FC Dallas, their third and first goals on the season, respectively.

"The energy and the mindset is really what we're striving for. I think you could definitely tell there was a different camaraderie on the field," Tafari said. "The quality was a little bit lacking, like we would really like to push better in the quality, but the camaraderie is really what got us the win today, everybody fought for each other.”
