HIGHLIGHTS: FC Dallas unable to come back after late goal disallowed by video review

FC Dallas hosts the Eastern Conference foe in their penultimate regular season home game of 2024.

FRISCO, Texas — Only two home games remained at Toyota Stadium for the 2024 regular season.

FC Dallas was on the outside of the playoff line looking in, trailing 9th place Minnesota United by five points.

FC Dallas were in another must-win scenario to keep their playoff hopes alive. While not mathematically eliminated, their 3-1 loss to Orlando City SC Saturday night made a slim shot at climbing into the No. 9 spot even slimmer.

“I think we definitely underperformed in the first half, especially after the game we had last week against LAFC. We came out flat, and they came out sharp and killed us on the ball," forward Logan Farrington said after the match. "I think we were lucky to only be down by one. In the second half, we put in a better performance and came out stronger with Paul’s goal and mine that ended up being offside. We almost made the comeback but it was just too late.”

Minnesota United's win over Colorado made the gap to make up even larger. Minnesota hopped Portland into the No. 8 spot, but the Timbers still have to play their match on Sunday against Vancouver. Before the weekend is over, FC Dallas will trail the final playoff spot by either seven or eight points, depending on what happens in the Portland game.

They'll need to make up that deficit in only three games. FC Dallas will practically need to win out and still need some help with clubs above them in the standings losing to make up ground.

“Right now we need to take care of what we can control. Go on the road, get six points, come back, and hopefully get another three points," Farrington said. "We need to take care of business and hope the rest falls in place for us.”

FC Dallas' next match is on the road against San Jose on Wednesday.
