DALLAS — Messi Mania took over Dallas-Fort Worth last summer when Inter Miami came to Frisco to take on FC Dallas in the Leagues Cup, which was his first ever match played away from DRV PNK Stadium.
Ticket demand for the early August match soared, crashing the FC Dallas ticketing platform during the pre-sale and selling out in the general sale in only 10 minutes, per the club. Resale ticket prices fluctuated from $400 to as high as $700-800, at times, depending on the quality of the seats being sold.
Now, Messi and Miami are returning to North Texas for a preseason tilt, this time in the historic, 92,000-seat Cotton Bowl, which hosted the 1994 FIFA World Cup and numerous top clubs from around the globe.
Sources tell WFAA that Messi is "committed and expected to play." Another player to potentially look out for in the match would be one of Messi's former teammates who has been added to the roster in the offseason: Luis Suarez.
Suarez is the third former Barcelona teammate of Messi's to join Inter Miami alongside Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets.
FC Dallas lost to Messi and Miami in penalty kicks last go around, and if you want to catch a glimpse of the greatest of all-time, you'll need to shell out a hefty amount of cash to do so. This preseason match is being put on by third party WORLD ELEVEN and FLASH SPORTS, with tickets available for purchase at www.fairparktix.com.

The August 2022 Leagues Cup match brought $3 million of estimated direct economic impact to Frisco, according to city officials. That was for a sellout crowd of 19,096 at Toyota Stadium. Apply the Messi effect to a crowd nearly five times that size (assuming another sellout of the Cotton Bowl).
There's a reason Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson is "thrilled to welcome FC Dallas back to the Cotton Bowl, their original home, for a match against Inter Miami." It's the all-time Argentine coming to town and the market he brings alongside him.
"Dallas is a dynamic city with deep soccer roots, and this highly-anticipated match will certainly generate even more soccer buzz as we get ready to host the FIFA World Cup 2026," Johnson added in a press release statement.
