HIGHLIGHTS: Colorado steals match away from FC Dallas in stoppage time

FC Dallas will go on the road next against Vancouver Whitecaps.

FRISCO, Texas — FC Dallas had an opportunity to climb the standings in their first home match in 45 days, but ultimately had the game stolen away in the final moments.

A promising sight was the return of Alan Velasco, who has been rehabbing a knee injury all season. He suffered a torn ACL in Game 1 of the first round series against the Seattle Sounders in last season's MLS Cup Playoffs.

When Velasco subbed onto the field in the 79th minute, it was the first time this season all three of the club's Designated Players were on the field at the same time. Petar Musa and Jesus Ferreira had subbed in earlier in the second half as they are also coming back from injuries of their own.

“I was very emotional tonight after coming into the match tonight. It has been a long couple of months to come back from this difficult injury," Velasco said. "I was happy to get back to the field tonight but was not happy with the result. We wanted to win tonight. It felt good to get back on the pitch in a real game, I had previously played in inter squads but I felt good coming back tonight.”

Musa and Ferreira made an immediate impact after coming onto the pitch. Ferreira played a through ball behind the back line to Sam Junqua, who then lobbed a cross that connected with Musa for a header and gave FC Dallas a 2-1 lead in the 66th minute. It was Musa’s team-high 14th goal of the 2024 MLS season, making it the most prolific debut season for a player in FC Dallas history (Jason Kreis and Damian Alvarez each scored 13 in their first seasons, 1996 and 1998 respectively). Musa also has a goal in five-straight MLS games.

Watch FC Dallas coach Peter Luccin's full press conference here:

Logan Farrington scored the first goal for Dallas early on in the sixth minute. Farrington has six goal contributions in the last six games with two goals and four assists. He has also contributed to goals in Dallas’ last three home games in MLS (two goals, one assist).

Colorado scored two unanswered goals in the 76th and 93rd minuutes.

“We were winning the game twice, 1-0, 2-1. We were not able to maintain that result. The late goal that we conceded, it’s not good," FC Dallas head coach Peter Luccin said. "We had chances, a lot of chances but we didn’t get it done. Now we know what we have to do. We have to win in Vancouver and that’s it. Today was a hard day and tomorrow is a different day, we will be ready to fight out there.”

FC Dallas visits the Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Sept. 7 from BC Place. The match will kickoff at 9:30 p.m. CST.
