Alan Velasco tops MLS '22 under 22' list, marking third straight FC Dallas player in No. 1 spot

Two FC Dallas players made the 22 under 22 list in 2023.

FRISCO, Texas — FC Dallas midfielder Alan Velasco came in at the No. 1 spot of the MLS "22 under 22" list, which highlights the league's top players under 22 years old.

Velasco placed 7th on the list in 2022. His spot at the top marks the third straight year where a FC Dallas player came in at No. 1 after Jesus Ferreira and Ricardo Pepi did so in 2022 and 2021, respectively.

The Argentine winger has scored three goals and recorded four assists in the 2023 season thus far for FC Dallas. He was also the beneficiary of the jersey swap with fellow countryman, Lionel Messi, when Inter Miami played FC Dallas in Leagues Cup.

Velasco received his first national team call-up to the defending World Cup champion Argentina team in late August. He joined FC Dallas before the 2022 season and made an immediate impact. Velasco scored six goals and dished seven in 26 appearances in 2022. His skill was prevalent in the 2022 playoffs, when he pulled out a panenka on the game-winning penalty kick to advance FC Dallas to the second round.

FC Dallas forward Bernard Kamungo also made the 2023 MLS 22 under 22 list at the No. 19 spot.
