Riley Dodge named Flower Mound Marcus offensive coordinator

Flower Mound Marcus has elevated Riley Dodge to offensive coordinator, a season after the former Southlake Carroll quarterback joined the staff.

March 2: Flower Mound Marcus has elevated Riley Dodge to offensive coordinator, a season after the former Southlake Carroll quarterback joined the staff. Marcus coach Gerry Stanford said in a text he will make the move with former Marcus offensive coordinator J.D. Martinez being named head coach at Sherman this week.

Dodge was an integral part of the Southlake Carroll dynasty of his dad, Todd Dodge, who led Austin Westlake to the Class 6A state final last season. Dodge joined Marcus' staff last spring after being an assistant at Texas A&M and Texas. Marcus was one of the state's top programs last season with a second-round playoff loss to eventual Class 6A semfinalist Mansfield. Marcus (10-2) defeated Mansfield in its season-opener and nearly upset 3-time defending state champ Allen in their District 6-6A showdown.

Marcus will be in the new UIL District 5-6A with Dodge's alma mater Southlake Carroll next season along with Euless Trinity, L.D. Bell, Flower Mound, Lewisville,, Hebron and Trophy Club Byron Nelson. Stanford said Marcus starts spring practice May 2.

Feb. 29: Sherman will name Flower Mound Marcus offensive coordinator J.D. Martinez as it head coach, according to the Sherman Herald Democrat. Martinez is a 21-year coaching veteran from Granbury and North Texas grad. He takes over for Bill Patterson, who resigned after two years ... A top candidate will be Riley Dodge, who joined the Marcus staff of Gerry Stanford last spring as receivers coach and worked under Martinez ... Bishop Lynch named Chuck Faucette as head coach. A former strenth and conditioning coach at SMU and Texas, the 52-year-old Faucette has most recently been at a St. Louis private school ... The Navasota school board unanimously voted a 2-year extension to Lee Fedora after it surprisingly didn't do so two weeks ago. About 50 people showed up at a specially called, close-session meeting which took an hour before the public vote was taken. Fedora, who has led the school to its only two stat titles 2012 and 2014, met with the school board for 40 minutes in closed session.

Feb. 26: Former Allen football star and West Mesquite Defensive Coordinator Marcus Shavers was presented as Estacado’s new head football coach and athletic coordinator at an LISD Board of Trustees meeting Thursday morning reported lubbockonline.com.

Shavers is a 2005 Allen High School grad that played football at Arkansas from 2005-08, finishing as a three-year letterman.Prior to joining West Mesquite in 2012 as a coordinator, Shavers coached at Wichita Falls from 2009-2012 ... With Fort Worth Nolan's Joe Prud'homme taking over the start of Texas Wesleyan program, Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Kevin Lonnquist says Nolan offensive coordinator Matt Cook is likely Nolan successor, but don't let about 100 of you from sending in those resumes ...

Feb. 23: Mansfield is expected to name Daniel Maberry as new head coach. Maberry was offensive coordinator under former coach Jeff Hulme, who left for Waco Midway. Mansfield is coming of its longest playoff run to the Class 6A state semifinals and a first district title in 42 years. Mansfield returns highly rated running back Kennedy Brooks and receiver/defensive back Saiid Adebo. Maberryalso has made a name for himself as a track coach over Mansfield's relay teams. Former Euless Trinity coach Steve Lineweaver came out of retirement to serve as interim coach ... Marcus Shavers (Allen Class of 2005) is a finalist at Lubbock Estacado along with Sherman defensive coordinator Robert Johnson, according to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. Now West Mesquite's defensive coordinator, Shavers was standout player at Allen and played at Arkansas ... Pecos native Mike Peters has left Saginaw after 10 years (six as head coach) and has been hired at Fort Stockton

Feb. 22 Irving MacArthur announced Ronny Mullins as new football coach. Mullins has been at Frisco Centennial the last year after stints at Prosper and at Frisco. Mullins, a former standout player at Plano and Texas, began his 28-year coaching career as an assistant in Garland. He replaces David Basil,who left for Trophy Club Byron Nelson ...

Feb. 18: Killeen Shoemaker Channon Hall will be Mansfield Summit's new coach. Hall replaces Travis Pride, who left to become head coach at Trophy Club Byron Nelson. Hall has been at Shoemaker for five years, with a 21-12 record the last three years. He took over in 2011 after four years as offensive coordinator at Pflugerville Connally. Hall also has been an assistant at Harker Heights .. Former Baylor quarterback Shawn Bell replaces Todd Ford at Cedar Ridge. Bell was at Magnolia West ... Ford was named at Lovejoy last month .. Kaufman hired Jeremy Burleson as new athletic director head football coach. Burleson is the son-in-law of Texas high school coaching icon Dickie Meeks. Former Kaufman coach Craig Barker was hired at Tatum after going 16-9 the last two seasons at Kaufman ... Bishop Gorman hasn't lost since 2013 and its West Coast players to attend the Las Vegas school. Gorman opens the 2016 season against Cedar Hill with Texas A&M commit Tate Martell and now recruiting analyst Jason Howell reports Lake Travis standout running back Maleek Barkley will play next season at Gorman (the IMG of the desert) ... Class 4A Gainesville has opened its Athletic Director/Head football coach search after 11-year basketball coach/AD Eric Johns resigned

Feb. 16: Two-time state-champion coach Lee Fedora could become a candidate at Mansfield, Mansfield Summit and Irving MacArthur was the Navasota school surprisingly opted not to extend his contract for a second year .. Fedora is one of the state's most successful candidates but seemed to have found a home at Navasota near College Station/Bryan. Fedora was once a finalist to be head coach at Coppell when Bob Shipley departed several years ago. A motion to extend Fedora's contract to two years wasn't seconded. He has a year on his contract but is now, essentially, a lame duck ... Daingerfield is expected to hire Mike Waldie of Woodvillereports David Smoak of ESPN Waco ... Paris North Lamar coach Tim Billings has resigned to join the staff at Southern Miss ... Fort Worth Southwest has elevated Robert Goebel as head coach. Goebel's cousin is formerCuero and Baylor quarterback Brad Goebel

Mansfield has named former Euless Trinity coach Steve Lineweaver as interim coach while it seeks a replacement. Mansfield Summit is being led by former coach Terry Cron after Travis Pride was named last week at Trophy Club Byron Nelson. Mansfield coach Jeff Hulme was named at Waco Midway last week.

Mansfield ISD athletic director Debbie Weems said the two longtime coaches are to guide the programs "in the meantime" before new coaches are hired. Weems said Summit interviews will be next week with Mansfield interviews the following week. Coaches are expected to be named by the en of the month or early March. Weems said utilizing Lineweaver and Cron "wasn't the point" of naming them permanent coaches. Weems said both programs are going well but there are a lot of tasks to oversee and the school district didn't want the staffs to be short-staffed during a transition time.

In a 22-year head coaching career, Lineweaver led teams to four state titles - one at Commerce and three at Trinity. Cron retired from Mansfield Timberview in 2009 after a career in which he led Mart to the 1999 Class 2A state title, Commerce to a 3A title and Bartlett to a Class A championship.

Feb. 8 Update: All-Time Texas Super Bowl Team

Garland coach Jeff Jordan announced Monday he was leaving the sidelines of Texas high school football and joining the staff of David Beaty at Kansas. Jordan has been head coach at Garland since 2001 when he was elevated from defensive coordinator when Joe Martin left for Allen. Jordan is instrumental with the DFW Coaches Clinic and will be on the coaching staff Kansas as Director of Personnel ... Also in #txhsfb Frisco ISD singed a $1.7 million contract with Nike ... The adidas Texas State 7-on-7 Tournament is July 7-9 in College Station ... Von Miller and Gary Kubiak make All-Time Texas High School Super Bowl team with top performances in Denver's 24-10 win over Carolina

Jordan was defensive coordinator under Allen with Tom Westerberg as offensive coordinator when Garland won the 1999 state title. Martin stayed at Allen until 2004 when he became Assistant Executive Director of the Texas High School Coaches Association. Westerberg remained and won for state titles at Allen before recently leaving to become head coach and athletic director at Barbers Hill in Southeast Texas. Beaty was an assistant on the 1999 Garland staff and was a player at Garland in 1989. Former Arlington Bowie coach Kenny Perry also is on Beaty's staff.

Frisco Lebanon Trail will name Sadd Jackson of Manor as its new head coach. The Frisco ISD will open its ninth Class 5A school this August but Lebanon won't compete this year in District 13-5A which is all-Frisco with Frisco, Centennial, Heritage, Independence, Liberty, Lone Star, Reedy and Wakeland ... Greenville is expected to elevate Darren Duke to replace Marvin Sedberry Sr. Duke (a former Conrad head coach) joined Sedberry's staff as defensive coordinator three years ago.
