KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice said he is looking to "mature and continue to grow," in his first public comments addressing offseason issues, including a multi-vehicle crash on U.S. 75 that occurred in Dallas.
Rice spoke to reporters Saturday while participating in a youth football camp in Kansas City, ABC News reported.
He was arrested in April and faces eight felony charges in connection to the crash that occurred on U.S. 75 in Dallas in late March. Rice is also a suspect in an alleged assault at a Dallas nightclub. The victim of the assault is not pursuing charges against Rice, WFAA reported.
"I've learned so much from that," he said. "All I can do is mature and continue to grow from that. This is a step in a better direction for me."
The former SMU wide receiver also said he is leaning on his teammates for support after the two incidents.
"Accidents and stuff like that happen, but all you can do is move forward and walk around being the same person, try to be positive so that everybody can feel your love and your great energy," he said.
Rice is also being sued for more than $1 million in actual damages and $10 million in punitive damages by people who say they were injured in the Dallas crash.
