PARIS, France — North Texas olympian Sha'Carri Richardson expressed her admiration for one of Dallas' greatest athletes on Instagram Saturday after the pair met up and the Mens Basketball final in Paris.
Richardson posted a photo on her Instagram story with Dirk Nowitzki after winning a silver and gold medal at the Paris Olympics.
"Meeting Mr. Dirk as a South Dallas girl made my life," Richardson wrote.
Nowitzki and Richardson watched the US men's basketball team face-off against France for a gold medal yesterday in the men's basketball final at the Paris Olympics Saturday.
Richardson, 24, is from Dallas and attended Carter High School, where she starred on the track team. She won five University Interscholastic League (UIL) Class 4A state championships, three in the 100-meter dash (2016, 2017, 2018) and two in the 200-meter dash (2017, 2018), WFAA previously reported.
She later attended Louisiana State University (LSU) and after one season in college, she turned pro. She finally got her chance to compete for gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics after being bumped out of the 100-meter competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for marijuana.
Now, she is coming back to Dallas with a silver and gold medal in the 100-meter and 4x100-meter events.
Nowitzki was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2023. With a statue depicting his likeness and a road named after him, Nowitzki is deeply appreciated by Mavs fans for the 21 seasons he spent with the Dallas Mavericks.
That appreciation is clearly shared by the metroplex's newest shining star, Sha'Carri Richardson.
