AUSTIN, Texas — American sprinter Gabby Thomas has captured the eyes and hearts of U.S. fans everywhere with her incredible story of going from Harvard grad to Olympic champion.
Thomas, 27, got a neurobiology from Harvard University, then moved to Austin, Texas to be coached by Tonja Buford-Bailey and to pursue her Master's Degree in epidemiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center. During the day, she trains to be the Olympic champion that she's become. But at night, she volunteers at a health care clinic for people without insurance, per NBC News.
Somewhere along the way in Austin, Thomas met her boyfriend Spencer McManes, who shared a selfie with Thomas after she won her first ever Olympic gold medal.
The selfie moment has left fans eager to know more about McManes.
Who is Gabby Thomas' boyfriend?
It's unclear exactly how Thomas and McManes met, but they both seem to live in Austin. Thomas is consistently featured on McManes' Instagram page, according to Town & Country, who report viewing the profile before it was made private ahead of the Paris Olympics.
McManes played football for Yale University and grew up in Roswell, Ga., according to his football bio.
McManes also founded Austin-based kava brand Kaviva, a "kava-based sparkling water served, with enough kava in one can to create a mouth tingling sensation and euphoric buzz." It also "comes in fruity flavors," is "hangover free and athlete approved."
McManes is also seen in a post on Thomas' Instagram where the couple is out and about in Paris during the Olympics.
McManes' family is very supportive of Thomas. McManes' mom posted about how proud the family is of her and their pride for being "Team Gabby."
Thomas won both bronze (200m) and silver (4X100m) in the Tokyo Olympics. The 200m gold medal in Paris marked her first.
