PARIS, France — Satou Sabally continues to dazzle in her Paris Olympic debut representing her home country of Germany.
She was unstoppable against Japan scoring 33 points in the 75-64 win to secure a spot in the quarterfinals. Nicknamed "The Unicorn," she scored 23 of her 33 points in the first half on Thursday.
Sabally, a forward for the Dallas Wings, tied for the eighth-highest individual scoring in an Olympic game.
"Honestly, I'm proud to be part of that," she said in a post-game interview.
Her sister, Nyara, didn’t play against Japan after being helped off the court in Germany's opening win against Belgium on Monday.
Through two games in France, Sabally is averaging 25 points, 6 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
Sabally has yet to play in a game for the Wings in 2024 after undergoing a shoulder procedure during the offseason. Following her historic performance in Paris, her team is eager to welcome her back to the hardwood once the Olympic games conclude.
Spain and Serbia have also already punched their Quarterfinal tickets. Meanwhile, Team USA is chasing an eighth straight Olympic gold medal.
Sabally and Team Germany wrap up Group C play against the United States on Sunday. Quarterfinal action tips off in Paris on Wednesday, Aug. 7, with the matchups and game times not yet announced as the field continues to solidify.
