Dallas' Nic Fink, an electrical engineer, wins silver in photo finish Breaststroke race

Nic Fink, who lives in Dallas and trains at SMU, won silver in the 2024 Paris Olympics, marking a major achievement in his late-blooming career

DALLAS — Dallas' Nic Fink is one of many North Texas residents competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics, but he's among the first to win a medal.

Fink took home the silver Monday in the 100-meter breaststroke after tying with Britain's Adam Peaty in a photo finish. At 31 years old, he became the oldest first-time Olympic swimming medalist in history.

This is only Fink's second Olympics, but he's a six-time world champion in breaststroke.

Fink is not from Dallas, but he calls it home, working full-time as an electrical engineer. When he's not on the job, he's training at SMU, where his wife, Olympic gold medalist Melanie Margalis Fink, is an assistant coach for SMU's women's swim and dive team. Melanie won gold in the 4x200m freestyle relay in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Melanie couldn't be in Paris to cheer Nic on because the couple is expecting a baby in September.

"I think she was probably just as excited as I was," Fink said referring to his wife in an interview with ABC News. "It's been really fun kind of being big fans of each other..."
