McKINNEY — Some of the best athletes come to Michael Johnson Performance in McKinney. It's where the Olympic and world gold medalist has built a training ground.

"Most of the athletes who come here come here because they want to get better the right way," he said.

He emphasizes the words "right way." — especially after the World Anti-Doping Agency issued a report condemning some Russian athletes for using performance-enhancing drugs (see the full text at the end of this story). The report also calls out Russians for having systemic issues related to testing of Olympic athletes.

Johnson, a product of Dallas Skyline High School, reached track's pinnacle, winning four Olympic gold medals and eight World Championship gold medals.

Johnson said he is disturbed by the doping report.

"Imagine that athlete who finished fourth who could have been on the podium. You'll never get that opportunity again," he said.

Some Team USA athletes have already sounded off. The 800-meter runner Alysia Montaño took to Twitter describing the medals she was robbed of by Russians named in the report.

"Even if she gets a bronze medal now, that's not what you do this for... to get a medal years later in some back room," Johnson said.

He added that if this is all true, the athletes who were denied their rewards are the real victims. He says he also feels for the Russian athletes who did not cheat.

Russia has denied the allegations in the WADA report. No lifetime bans had been issued as of Wednesday night.

We asked the man with golden shoes if he ever felt the pressure to dope.

"I was fortunate to have a coach who — similar to my parents — instilled a value system in me that would not allow me to consider that sort of thing," Johnson said. "At the same time... I was always winning... I didnt need to."

The training will continue. Athletes at MJP are focused on the Summer Games in Rio de Janiero, Brazil next year. But many doubt the doping allegations — and the cloud that hangs over the Olympics — are leaving any time soon.
