The Dallas area is a hotbed for lacrosse in Texas, something a new business in Addison hopes to capitalize on in a big way.

The Lacrosse Barn opened June 1 backed by big names in the sport. An old indoor soccer facility was converted into a modern training center spanning about 68,000 square feet at 14801 Inwood Road, a little south of Belt Line Road.

Owner Nick Tintle said he aimed to create "a top-notch facility where anyone from youth to pro players has a place that they can call home."

Coaching sessions, camps and other events are planned at The Lacrosse Barn, which is also available for rent by other groups.

There are already plans to expand. Paperwork recently filed with the state indicates a 20,000-square-foot second building is in the works.

Construction of the two-story expansion is slated to begin in mid-August and cost about $3.6 million, according to Noe Avila, co-owner of Avila Castillo Architecture LLC, the firm designing the new building.

Avila and his team also handled the design of the first building, which underwent a $1.5 million renovation, according to a May 2023 filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Tintle approached the architects with enthusiasm about the growing lacrosse community in Texas and expressed his idea for a state-of-the-art facility, Avila said.

"We just kind of got behind his idea," he said. "[We] saw his vision, saw his passion and tried to create something that reflected that."

It was this passion that inspired a "mega barn" interior look, Avila said.

Tintle played college lacrosse at North Carolina and won two championships during his professional career.

Tintle said the property was purchased in 2022 and is owned by Drew McKnight, co-CEO and managing partner of Fortress Investment Group, an investment management firm with around $49 billion in assets under management. McKnight is also a former lacrosse all-American and NCAA champion with the University of Virginia.
