DALLAS — The Dallas Stars hockey community is mourning the loss of a 9-year-old boy who played in the Dallas Stars Metro Hockey League and died on Friday.

The Stars tweeted out a photo of a hockey stick laid up against a Dallas Stars door with the caption #SticksOutForLiam.

According to the next tweet in the thread, Liam was a 9-year-old boy who played defenseman in the Dallas Stars Metro Hockey League, the team's child hockey development program. The league is built to provide age and skill-appropriate structure and content for players who have completed the Stars' Hockey Academy program, according to the website.

The Dallas Stars said Liam's favorite color was purple and he loved the Stars.

"Liam will be greatly missed by the entire Stars hockey community. We send our love to Liam’s family and friends," the team tweeted.
