Dallas, Denver mayors make friendly wager on Stars-Avalanche series

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson posted on X, wagering a Texas-style belt buckle. Denver's mayor, Mike Johnston, gladly obliged to the bet.

DALLAS — The Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche start their second-round playoff series Tuesday night at the American Airlines Center.

Dallas finished first in the Central Division and Colorado came in third. The Stars won their first-round matchup against defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights in seven games, while the Avalanche rolled past the No. 2 seed Winnipeg Jets in five games.

The Avalanche bested the Stars in the regular series:

  • Nov. 18: Colorado 6, Dallas 3
  • Jan. 4: Colorado 5, Dallas 4 (OT)
  • Feb. 27: Dallas 1, Colorado 5
  • April 7: Dallas 7, Colorado 4

With the Stars-Avalanche series looking, Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson posted a friendly wager for Denver Mayor Mike Johnston on X. The two mayors wagered themed belt buckles.

“I always love a friendly sports wager with another mayor,” said Mayor Johnson. “The Dallas Stars have played a great season and I look forward to cheering them on along with the rest of Dallas as they vie for the right to play for the Stanley Cup.”

“I’m especially excited to add a Denver flag belt buckle to my collection after the Stars beat the Avalanche!” added Mayor Johnson.

"I'm looking forward to a friendly Johnston vs. Johnson competition during the Stanley Cup playoffs, and I’m excited to add a new belt to my collection,” said Denver Mayor Johnston. “Avs faithful in Denver and across the country will be cheering for Colorado. Let’s go, Avalanche!”
