Hang the banner: Cowboys top NFL franchise value rankings - again - and surpass a really big number

Love 'em or hate 'em, "America's Team" has long held the top spot in franchise value rankings, across the NFL but also across all sports leagues.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Hang the banner, Cowboys. You're the most valuable franchise in sports -- again.

That might not be what fans want to hear, or even care about, coming off yet another playoff disappointment. But it's also not a surprise to see the Cowboys leading the NFL franchise values again, this time according to the sports business news publication Sportico.

Love 'em or hate 'em, "America's Team" has long held the top spot in franchise value rankings, across the NFL but also across all sports leagues. What's interesting about the Sportico rankings, which were released Tuesday morning, is that the Cowboys have now cracked the $10 billion mark, the first sports franchise to do so, according to Sportico's valuations.

Sportico reported the Cowboys' $10.32 billion value as a 12% increase from 2023. Sportico also noted that NFL franchise values have gone up across the board, an average increase of 15.4%, fueled by ever-growing television rights deals as the most-watched sport in the United States.

The Los Angeles Rams ranked No. 2 on the Sportico rankings with a value of $7.79 billion, also up 12% from 2023. The Miami Dolphins saw one of the biggest jumps in value, increasing by 29% to $6.76 billion and cracking the top 10.

Here's the full top 10:

  1. Dallas Cowboys: $10.32B +12%
  2. Los Angeles Rams $7.79B +12%
  3. New York Giants $7.65B +9%
  4. New England Patriots $7.31B +9%
  5. San Francisco 49ers $6.86B +11%
  6. New York Jets $6.8B +11%
  7. Miami Dolphins $6.76B +29%
  8. Philadelphia Eagles $6.75B +16%
  9. Las Vegas Raiders $6.7B +13%
  10. Washington Commanders $6.3B +4%

As Cowboys fans can attest, their favorite franchise might give new new meaning to the old saying, "Money can't buy happiness." Or Super Bowls. Or even a trip to the NFC Championship Game.

But as Jerry Jones noted in his press conference at the onset of training camp, fans keep showing up, buying tickets and tuning in. Enough so that $10 billion doesn't seem that far-fetched.
